Clock Strikes Midnight on Wilmington's Cinderella Season

When the final gun sounded on Wilmington's season all the Greyhound players raised their heads high, of course there wasn't a dry eye either. Wilmington's 14 game winning streak came to an end Friday night with a 28-7 loss to Jeanette (14-1.) The 'Hounds lone score came off the legs of Senior Dave Bruno after the Hounds Shane Wagner intercepted the Terelle Pryor pass. The seemingly only other Hound excitement came when Wilmington stormed in to block a Jeanette punt. With the win Jeanette continues a streak that has gone on for six years. The last time a District 10 team beat a WPIAL team in a PIAA football playoff game was when Erie Cathedral Prep knocked off Mount Lebanon 39-14 on December 2, 2000. Of course that means it's just another goal for Coach Verrelli and the 2007 Greyhounds to reach next year. As for this Cinderella story, it may not end quite the way Verelli scripted it, but 14 wins in a single season for most teams is just considered a fairy tale.
